In Memoriam - October 12, 2018 - Sid Paulson

Sidney C Paulson
1943~2018
Holladay, UT-Sidney C Paulson, 75, from Holladay, Utah passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2018 while serving as president of the Regina Saskatchewan Temple. He was born in Murray, Utah on April 4, 1943 to Fred and Theresa Paulson. From a young age, Sid enjoyed participating and competing in a variety of sports. Sid loved his country and his church. As a young man, he served in the United States Coast Guard and labored as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Great Lakes Mission.
In 1968, Sid met and began courting Judy Ostvig as they served together in the Brigham Young University 53rd ward. On August 15, 1969, Sid and Judy were married in the Salt Lake Temple. Both Sid and Judy anticipated this day with great excitement. Throughout their 49 years of marriage, Sid was a loving, caring, and attentive husband.
Sid will be remembered as a man of integrity, discipline, determination, purpose, and sound judgment. These characteristics led many to seek his advice, and his wise counsel continues to bless many lives. Sid cherished the relationships he developed during his successful career in the insurance and healthcare industry. Sid's career began at Galbraith and Green, then transitioned to Alta Health Strategies, and finally to SelectHealth. In 2009, while employed as President and CEO of SelectHealth, Sid received a call to serve as president of the Canada Winnipeg Mission. His decision to retire from a job he loved was evidence of his faith and commitment to the Lord. Sid felt the greatest blessing of the mission was working daily with Judy alongside the devoted missionaries.
One of Sid's fondest joys was spending time at home with family and friends. His children and grandchildren will miss rounds of golf, Sid's special raspberry shakes, stories of Raggylug the cottontail rabbit, and watching BYU games.
In 2015, Sid was called to return to Canada, this time as the president of the Regina Saskatchewan Temple. The thought of leaving home once again was difficult for Sid; however, his strict obedience and desire to serve the Lord prevailed. He appreciated the love of the Savior and profound peace he felt as he served in the temple. The eternal effect of Sid's life-long commitment to serve will influence countless lives for the better.
Sid is preceded in death by his father, Fred Martell Paulson, and his mother, Theresa Cornum Paulson. He is survived by his wife, Judy Ostvig Paulson; their children Bret (Stephanie), Craig (Kristen), Natalie Smith (Shane), Nicole; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild; siblings Alice Flake (Ken), Fred (Linda), Max (Jeanne), Christie Hansen (Verne), and Scott.
